LUGOFF - Funeral service for John H. Scott, 83, will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Rev. Doug Whitfield will officiate. The family will receive friends Friday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral home. Memorials may be made to the Connie Maxwell Children’s Home in Greenwood, S.C. Mr. Scott died Tuesday, June 22, 2010, surrounded by his wife and daughters. Born in Darlington, he was a son of the late Burrell Morris and Christine Carraway Scott. He served in the United States Army during WW II and retired from DuPont in 1984. He was a member of the American Legion and the VFW. Mr. Scott was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. He enjoyed going to the beach with his family, and his great hobbies were fishing at his house in Santee, hunting and gardening. Surviving are his wife, Virginia David Scott; daughters, Valerie Scott Kennington (James D. Jr.) of Lugoff, and Kathy Scott Murff (Gary) of Camden; brother, James E. “Dick” Scott of Charlotte, N.C.; grandchildren, Shannon Kennington of Lugoff, Scott Murff of Columbia, and Ashley Murff of Fayetteville, N.C.; and special friends, Scottie Oliver and Heyward Langley. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruby Dell Scott.
