Camden – Funeral services for Curtis Melvin Jones, Sr. of Camden, SC, 82, will be held on Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Cedar Cemetery. The Rev. Dr. James P. Smith will officiate. The family will receive friends and family at the home during the hours of 5-7 p.m. Mr. Jones passed away on Sunday, September 25, 2016. Born in Lugoff, South Carolina, on February 2, 1932, he was the son of the late Cora Jones Dixon. He retired from the Cedar Grove Mental Institute for Children as an Attendant and relocated to South Carolina to care for his ailing grandmother, Katie Jones. He was a member of Unity United Methodist Church in Lugoff, South Carolina. Curtis enjoyed gardening and doing handiwork around the house with his dog, Jill and helping neighbors and friends. He will be remembered for his good nature and comradery. Curtis is preceded in death by his eldest son Curtis Melvin Jones, Jr of Camden, South Carolina. Surviving him are his wife, Florence King of Camden, SC; sons, Marvin Z. Jones of Washington D.C. and Charles E. Jones of Camden, South Carolina; sister, Elaine Butler; and brother, Charles Dixon both of Flint, Michigan; grandchildren, Tonya Volpe, Karon Jones, Robert Burke, Curtis Melvin Jones, Jr, III. LuKeisha Carr, Jonnetta M. Bratcher, Janera Jones, Destiny Jones; and several great grandchildren; and a host of nieces and nephews all of Flint, Michigan. Memorials in lieu of flowers or donations may be given to Florence King.
