Obituary of Howard Lee Cooper
ELGIN – Funeral services for Howard Lee Cooper, Sr., 73, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Ken Jackson and Pastor Greg Sweet will officiate. The family will receive friends from 1pm – 2pm at Hillcrest Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, or Gideon’s International.
Mr. Cooper passed away January 31, 2017. Born in Kershaw County, SC, on January 25, 1944, he was the son of the late Barney Cooper and Emily Craft Cooper. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and enjoyed camping. Mr. Cooper was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and brother. He had a heart of gold and was dearly loved.
Surviving are his wife, Ruth Branham Cooper; daughters, Sharen (Jeff) Whitfield, Deborah Springfield, Donna Marie Jett, and Melissa (Ernie) Brown; sons, Howard Lee Cooper, Jr. and Travis Wayne Cooper; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister, Shelby Jean (Jack) Jones; brothers, Bobby Mooneyhan and James Mooneyhan; and special dog, Cleo. He was predeceased by his son-in-law, William Tim Springfield, Jr.; and brothers, John Henry Cooper, Keith Mooneyhan, and David Mooneyhan.
