Obituary of Azalee M. Bennett
REMBERT – Funeral services for Azalee M. Bennett, 78, will be held Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Union Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Walter Robertson, III will officiate.
Mrs. Bennett passed away Saturday, May 27, 2017. Born in Sumter County, she was the daughter of the late James B. and Maggie Alston McCray. Mrs. Bennett was a member of Union Baptist Church where she served on the senior missionary and the senior choir. She enjoyed gardening, cooking, decorating her house, and telling her stories. Loving was her hobby.
Surviving is her husband Elijah Bennett; children, Linda Butler (Harry) of Rembert, Wayne McCray (Patrice) of VA, Beverly White (Brian) of Rembert, Ted McCray of Sanger, TX, Jerry Kershaw (Alice) of Rembert, Marie Grant (Charlie) of Rembert, Jeanette Outten of Camden; a brother, James A. McCray, Sr. (Katherine) of Capital Height, MD; 14 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; God-daughter, Marian Kendrick of Rembert; and a host of nieces, nephews, in-laws, and others that knew her as “Mom.” She was predeceased by brother, Herbert L. McCray, Sr. and a special niece, Vanessa O. McCray.
