Obituary of Marvin L. Rabon

CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of Marvin Legree Rabon, 93, will be held on Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Camden with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service in the church fellowship hall. Memorials may be made to Live Like Libby/Love Like Libby Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, 1486 County Road 21, Gordo, AL 35466. Mr. Rabon passed away surrounded by his family on Sunday, October 29, 2017. Born in Lugoff, he was the son of the late Tom and Alma Jackson Rabon. He served in the United States Navy from 1943-1945 aboard the USS Flemming and was a Seaman First Class. He served in the South Pacific assisting in the invasion in South Pacific Islands to include Gilbert, Marshals and Guam. Mr. Rabon retired from DuPont where he was a supervisor. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Camden, the Lions Club, VFW and volunteered with the American Cancer Society. He also worked with Aberdene Catery. Surviving are his wife of 70- years, Doris West Rabon; children, Wayne Rabon (Jenny) of Lake Wateree, Wanda Putnam (Neil) of Irmo, and Phil Rabon (Chuck) of Atlanta; sisters, Polly Roberts of Salem, Ala., Juanita Hocutt of Arab, Ala., and Carol Williams of Tampa, Fla.; 6 grandchildren; and numerous great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by son, Larry E. Rabon; 4 brothers; and 2 sisters. The family would like to extend their thanks to Dr. Holmstrom, Dr. Alderson and their staff for all of their tender love and care.
