ELGIN – Funeral services for Mildred Rabon Porter, 96, will be held on Wednesday, November 8, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with Rev. Stewart Kidd officiating. The family will receive friends Wednesday 1:00-2:00 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Burial will follow the service in the Porter-Higgins Family Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, South Carolina Chapter, 4124 Clemson Blvd – Ste L, Anderson, SC 29621. Mrs. Porter passed away on Monday, November 6, 2017. Born in Winnsboro, S.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Eva Aldrich Rabon. She co-founded and operated, with her husband, Porter’s Grocery in Elgin and was a leader in the community. Mrs. Porter enjoyed taking care of her family. Surviving are her children, Benjamin A. (Sylvia) Porter, Mary Knowles and William R. Porter; grandchildren, Terri Massey, Keith Porter, Robbie Knowles, Jr., Debra Byrne, Cindy Campbell and April Porter; 12 great-grandchildren; brother, Everett Rabon. She was predeceased by her husband, Arnold McCants Porter; daughter, Iris Porter; great-grandson, Craig Massey, Jr.; siblings, Talmage Rabon, Eloise Ingle, Clyde Rabon, Odell Rabon and George Rabon.
