ELGIN – A service to celebrate the life of John Charles Simmons, 56, will be held on Tuesday, January 16, 2018 at 4:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. The family will receive friends from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. Mr. Simmons passed away on Thursday, January 11, 2018. Born in Waterloo, IA, he was the son of Stanley Cary Simmons Jr. and the late Patricia Sue Adams Simmons. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service and served in Desert Storm. He was a Police Officer for Fort Jackson and worked part time for Auto Zone in Elgin. Mr. Simmons was a member of Harvest Baptist Church. He was also a member of the Strength and Honor Motorcycle Club and was a Mason and a member of the Scottish Rite. He enjoyed video games, motorcycle riding and was an avid Minnesota Vikings fan. Surviving are his wife, Melissa Robin VanGundy Simmons; sons, John Charles Simmons, Jr. (Jennifer), Cody Dylan Simmons, Brandon Ryan Simmons; brothers, Stanley Cary Simmons III, Matthew Adam Simmons and Christopher Ian Simmons; and a granddaughter, Lillith Marie Simmons.
