CAMDEN – A funeral service for Viola Bowers Stokes, 92, will be held on Sunday, May 27, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethel Worship Center, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Casey Mills and the Rev. Don Goude will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital or Bethel Worship Center. Mrs. Stokes passed away on Thursday, May 24, 2018. Born on August 25, 1925 in Cassatt, S.C., she was the daughter of the late Landy Edward Bowers and Bessie Irene Peach Bowers. She enjoyed reading, gardening, and bird and squirrel watching. Surviving are her children, Jerry Stokes (Carol), Janice Stokes Catoe (Allen), Ronnie Stokes (Debbie) and Dale Stokes (Kelly Boik); daughter-in-law, Jenna McLeod Stokes; grandchildren, Lara Stokes Hewitt (Eric), David Stokes (Sara), Allison Catoe (Daniel), Sharon Stokes, Michael Stokes (Angela), John Stokes and Jennifer Stokes; 5 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Betty Kelly, Landy “Red” Bowers, Jr., Paul Bowers, Mary McGee (Harold) and Robert Bowers. She was predeceased by her husband, Simon W. Stokes; son, Donnie Stokes; and siblings, Pearl Folsom, Ruby Folsom and Guy Bowers.
