Obituary of William M. Pettis

CAMDEN-Funeral service for William M. “Buck” Pettis, 66 will be held Wednesday at 2:00 p.m. at Community Bible Church with burial to follow in Community Bible Church Cemetery. Rev. Charles Roark and Rev. Jerry Peacock will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to the American Lung Association. Mr. Pettis died Sunday, February 1, 2009. Born in Sumter County, S.C. he was a son of the late W.W. Pettis and Corrinne Evans Pettis. He was a Mason of the Scottish Rite and was a member of the Jamil Shrine Temple. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved spending time with his family. Mr. Pettis was a member of Community Bible Church. Surviving are his wife of 23 years, Diane B. Pettis; daughters, Tina Dowdey of Lugoff, and Crystal (Rex) Freeman of Lawrenceville, Ga.; son, Jamie Petticord and his fiancée Carol of Lugoff; brother, Robert W. (Debbie) Pettis of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; sister, Nancy (Major) Tunnell of Greeneville, Tenn.; grandchildren, Christopher and Austin Freeman, Summer and Savannah Dowdey; and Alex and Stephanie Petticord. He was predeceased by a son, Herbert William Pettis.
