CAMDEN – There’s a new angel in Heaven and she has a paintbrush in her hand! Betty Lou McMahan Williams, 93, died Wednesday, May 1, 2013. She was born in Marietta, Georgia on May 7, 1919 to Edgar Oliver and Beth Coe McMahan. Mrs. Williams grew up in Sanford, N.C., graduated from James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va. and taught school in Waynesboro, Va. She married Clyde Irwin Williams on August 1, 1942. Betty Lou served in the American Red Cross in World War II. Mrs. Williams was an active member of Bethesda Presbyterian Church, a charter member of the Camden Art Association and was active in the creation of the Fine Arts Center of Kershaw County. She was well known locally for her paintings and drawings of local scenes and wildflowers. She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Sarah and Victor Jowers of Camden; grandsons, Eddie Deese of Lugoff, S.C. and Andrew Deese and his wife, Mary Kay Deese of Saline, Michigan. She is also survived by great-grandchildren, Matheson, Davis and Max Deese of Lugoff, S.C. and Hannah, Celia and Nicholson Deese of Saline, Michigan. Also, surviving is a brother, Edgar Oliver McMahan, Jr. of St. George, S.C. Mrs. Williams was pre-deceased by her husband and son, Clyde I. Williams, Jr. A memorial service will be held at Bethesda Presbyterian Church on Monday, May 6 at 11:00 a.m. The family will greet friends after the service. The family wishes to express special thanks to Mrs. Williams’ caregivers of the past 9 years at Presbyterian Home in Lexington, S.C. and “The Angels of the Annex” in the Karesh Wing at Kershaw Health. These dedicated women cared for Mrs. Williams every day with love, tenderness and grace and were a blessing to her and her family.
