Obituary of Jerry Strickland
LUGOFF - Funeral service for Jerry Strickland, 70, will be held Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. Rev. John O’Cain and Rev. Greg Sweet will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
Mr. Strickland died Wednesday, February 25, 2009. Born in Black, Ala., he was a son of the late Z.Y. Strickland and Cavie Ray Owens Strickland. He served in the Untied States Army and the United States Navy. He retired as a commercial contractor and owned Strickland Builders. He was currently employed with Enterprise Car Rental.
Mr. Strickland was a member of the VFW, NRA, and Republican National Committee. He was an avid NASCAR fan and fisherman. He attended Lugoff First Baptist Church.
Surviving are his daughter, Jeri Strickland of Columbia; stepchildren, Carroll Jackson of Lexington, Pam Jackson of Columbia, and Jeff Yasmine of Lugoff; brothers, Terrell Strickland, James Strickland, Billy Strickland, and Kulon Strickland; sister, Pat Shriver; and grandchildren, Jeremy Sessions, Mryriha Graham, Justin Yasmine, Cristin Yasmine, and Elizabeth Wentz. He was predeceased by a brother, Gene Strickland and a sister, Mary May.
