Obituary of Leon Baker
LUGOFF - Funeral service for Leon Baker, 67, will be held Monday at 2:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Greg Sweet and Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Sunday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Building Fund.
Mr. Baker died Friday, April 24, 2009 after a short illness. Born in Kershaw, he was a son of the late Eugene and Fannie Peach Baker. He retired from E.I. DuPont after 36 years and was owner of Baker’s Backhoe and Hauling.
Mr. Baker was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church for 32 years where he was a Church Moderator, children’s Sunday school teacher, Deacon, and a member of the Adult Choir. He was also active with the church mission work and a former member of Hermitage Baptist Church in Camden. He enjoyed traveling with his wife, children, grandchildren and close friends.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Patricia Moore Baker; daughters and sons-in-law, Stacy and Jeff Kubu of Anderson, S.C., and Tonya and Steve Perkins of Simpsonville, S.C.; brother, Kenny (Joey) Baker of Camden; sisters, Carol (Reggie) Pierce of Memphis, Tenn., Nancy Williams of Camden, JoAnn Harris of Camden, Peggy Kinney of Seneca, S.C., and Ellen (Don) Atkinson of Lugoff; and grandchildren, Jon-Michael and Mary Courtney Kubu, and Marshall, Kassidy, and Madison Perkins.
