CAMDEN - Funeral service for William Howard West, 84, will be held Tuesday at 11:30 a.m. at Hermitage Baptist Church with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia. Rev. Dr. Condy Richardson and Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Monday 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Hermitage Baptist Church Arise and Build. Mr. West died Sunday, May 10, 2009. Born in Kershaw County, he was a son of the late Levi and Ruth Wallace West. He served in the United States Army Air Corp having served in WW II and was a Bronze Star recipient. He retired from the South Carolina National Guard in 1985 at the rank of CW3. He was a member of the American Legion Post 17 and Retired National Guard Association. Mr. West enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church. Surviving are his wife of 62 years, Dorothy Robinson West; daughter and son-in-law, Joyce West and Robert “Bob” Moody of Simpsonville; son and daughter-in-law, David and Dale West of Camden; brother, Hazel West of Charlotte; sister, Doris W. Rabon of Camden; grandchildren, Robert Leon (Joya) Moody, Jr., Rachael E. Moody (Daxton) Swatek, William (Laci) West, Emily (Chris) Cameron, and Erika (Nathan) Anderson; and great-grandchildren, Cullen West Moody, Zachary Cameron, Josh Cameron, Brodie Horton, Riley Horton, Ryan West, and Kinsley Anderson. He was predeceased by brothers, Billy West and Cletus West.
