Obituary of Becky M Brown
LUGOFF - Becky M. Brown died on Saturday, July 4, 2009. Born in Cleveland, Mississippi, she was the daughter of Thurman “Red” Milling and Becky G. Milling of Collins, Mississippi. Mrs. Brown was a member of the First Baptist Church of Camden, South Carolina where she was active in many roles in the children’s division for over 40 years.
An outstanding educator, Mrs. Brown’s career included undergraduate and graduate degrees for the University of Southern Mississippi and specialist degree from the University of South Carolina. She worked for the Kershaw County School District for more than 30 years. As a teacher, she was selected Kershaw County’s Teacher of the Year in 1982 and South Carolina Teacher of the Year Honor Roll in 1983. In 1982, Mrs. Brown was selected as Distinguished Citizen of Camden. The Business and Professional Women’s Club of Kershaw County chose her to be the BPWC Career Woman of 1985-86. During her career, she also served as an adjunct professor and a supervisor of student teachers for the University of South Carolina.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Eric Brown. Survivors include a daughter and son-in-law, Rebecca and Rob Artlip; a granddaughter, Mari Elizabeth Artlip; two step grandsons, Blake and Tyler Artlip all of Lugoff, South Carolina; and a brother and sister-in-law, Bob and Nell Milling of Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday at 12:00 noon at First Baptist Church, Camden, South Carolina with Rev. Bruce Hancock officiating. The family will receive guests Tuesday from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 in the church fellowship hall. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the First Baptist Church in Camden or to the American Cancer Society, 647 Lachicotte Rd., Lugoff, SC 29078.
