Obituary of Richard Rochester
LUGOFF – A service to celebrate the life of Richard James Rochester, 85, will be held Sunday, June 2, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Grace Episcopal Church. The Rev. Phillip Whitehead will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Riverbanks Zoo and Garden or Grace Episcopal Church.
Mr. Rochester, husband of the late Margot Mary Rochester, died Saturday, May 18, 2013. Born in Portland, Maine, he was the son of the late James L. and Mary Belle Morgan Rochester.
Mr. Rochester served in the Army during the Korean War. After being honorably discharged, he attended the University of Michigan and earned a degree in Forestry. While attending the University of Michigan, Mr. Rochester met his wife Margot. Mr. Rochester and Margot moved to South Carolina after college and shared life together for 56 years. Dick worked as a forester where he was responsible for managing many properties for local landowners.
Mr. Rochester was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing as well as a devotion to training and field trialing Labrador Retrievers.
Surviving are his sons, Thomas “Tom” R. (Cindy) Rochester of Cornelius, N.C. and Dan (Bonnie) Rochester of Wilmington, N.C.; brother, Robert Rochester; and grandchildren, Haley Meagher (Mike), Drew Rochester, Gray Rochester, Morgan Rochester, and Margot Rochester.
