Obituary of Emma C. Watkins
CAMDEN - Emma Coats Watkins, 92, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Kershaw County Medical Center, Karesh Wing, Camden, SC, which had been her home for the past 5 years. Funeral services will be held on Monday May 17, 2010, at 3:00 pm, at Antioch Baptist Church, Camden, SC, conducted by the Rev. Buster Morris and Rev. Joe Stines. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held immediately following the burial in the Family Life Center of the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, Cemetery Fund, 1875 Antioch Road, Camden, SC 29020
Mrs. Watkins was born in Kershaw, SC, daughter of the late Ben and Gertrude Fletcher Coats. She was married for 53 years to the late Lawrence Broadus Watkins. She retired from Skyline Manufacturing Company after 25 years of service and was also a homemaker. She was a past member of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her 2 daughters, Sylvia (the late Richard H.) Strickland of Rock Hill; Shirley (Gene) Gordon of Elgin; 1 son B. Wayne (Sylvia) Watkins of Camden; 8 grandchildren, Kathy Herlong, Kimberly Hussey, Virginia Locke, Lorraine Chafin, Tami Huggins, Kiersten Ross, Ingrid Brantley & Eric Gordon, 2 step-grandchildren, Ryan & Josh Bowers and 10 great-grandchildren, 5 step-great grandchildren and 3 great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by one sister, Geneva Fuquea of Ranger, GA and one brother, Edward Coats of Kershaw, SC. She was predeceased by 5 sisters, Anna Mae Truesdale, Willene Phillips, Mary Faulkenberry, Edna Phillips, and Ruby Goforth and 1 brother, Henry Coats all of Kershaw, SC.
The family wishes to thank all the many friends and family for their support, visits and prayers and special thanks to the wonderful staff, nurses and caregivers, especially Barbara Sims & Audrey Davis, of the Kershaw County Medical Center, Karesh Wing, for their outstanding care. We will always remember each of you and thank you for making Mother’s days so much brighter.
