LUGOFF –Royal Edwin Cummings, Jr., 97, husband of the late Cora Rogers Cummings, entered into the loving embrace of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, September 19, 2010. Born on August 2, 1913, he was the son of the late Dr. Royal Edwin Cummings Sr. and Frances Hyde Cummings. Mr. Cummings is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Isabel Cummings of Lugoff; and grandchildren, Megan Cummings, Caroline Cummings, and Benjamin Cummings. He was predeceased by a sister, Betty Culver. Mr. Cummings was a 1938 graduate of Iowa State University where he received his Bachelors Degree in Forestry. He served in the United States Navy as an Aviation Metalsmith Second Class from 1942-1946 having served in WWII. Mr. Cummings was a member of the South Carolina Civil Air Patrol Camden Wing. He was an avid tennis player and enjoyed snow skiing and surfing. He was an outdoorsman who loved camping at the beach, in Canada and Alaska. He was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. A Celebration of Life Service will be held Thursday at 6:30 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church. Rev. Greg Sweet and Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 5:00 - 6:30 p.m. prior to the service at the church and also following the service. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church Building Fund.
