Skipper, there are no words to express the sorrow we have for you during this difficult time. Your mother was a very compassionate lady, and it was a joy to visit in her home; she seemed so happy when my sister-in-law and I finally accepted her many gracious invitations to visit her. She had prepared a delicious lunch, and we had a wonderful visit. How we looked forward to meeting Skip and Joan at Fort Jackson and he, of course, would not allow us to part without first treating us to lunch at The Officers Club or another of his favorite places. And, of course, we loved to be with you, Skip and Joan at the reunions at Mel & Jeanette's. Our hearts go out to you during the days ahead. We all may find some solace to know that Joan is now free of pain and has joined Skip in heaven. May God's comfort surround you this day and during the days ahead.
