WESTVILLE - Funeral Services for John W. Pate Sr., 62, will be held Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oak Ridge Baptist Church with a burial to follow in the church cemetery. Rev. Donald Coppedge, Rev. Dale Myers, and Rev Dr. Mark Bredholt will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to Oak Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund or Hospice of Tri-County. Mr. Pate died Thursday, October 21, 2010. Born in Florence County, he was the son of the late James and Elsie Mae Lee Pate. He worked for Horton Tire for 18 years. He Loved the Lord and was a member of Oak Ridge Baptist Church. He enjoyed Southern Gospel Music, and loved animals and fishing. Surviving are his wife of 37 years, Kathy Vincent Pate; sons, John Wayne Pate Jr. of Jacksonville, Fla., and James Pate of Westville; daughter, Maggie Shumpert and her husband, Matthew of West Columbia; 7 grandchildren; brother, James Edward Pate; sisters, Shirley Alewin and Martha Pate; and a special sister-in-law, Geraldine Prosser. He was predeceased by his brothers, Noah Schuler Pate, Gene Arthur Pate, David Pate; and sister, Iris Lynch.
