Tommy, as the family called him growing up in the 70's, was my first cousin. He was one of the funniest people I ever knew, and he made me laugh every time my family drove to visit my cousins in Lugoff. He was five years older than I am, and I really looked up to him when I was kid and he was a teenager. I'm sorry I did not see him much as an adult, but I will never forget how he would joke around at his Dad's river cabin, my Uncle Mac's cabin. Tommy would make us all laugh by imitating famous comedians and by telling jokes. He was also a masterful ping pong player and water skier. He was always joyful.

I was so shocked to learn of Tommy's death. We grew up together in the old Woodlawn Drive neighborhood in Camden, S.C. Although I had not seen him since high school days, it is evident that he had not changed at all. I have such fond memories of all those crazy childhood days. Tommy was always in the middle of all the chaos!! I will never forget his smile and that laugh...he was so full of life just like his Dad, Mr. Mac. My sincere thoughts and prayers go out to all the McCaskill family. Connie, I am here for you. Ms. Marion and Mr. Mac, be proud for you certainly raised a fine son and a remarkable and generous man.
Love to all the family, Libby

Tom's legacy with me will never be forgotten. Had he not met my father when he did and introduce me to a system for working with business owners, I would likely be in a different career and not have had the enjoyable life that has followed. Tom and his colleagues taught me more than I can ever repay. You will be missed. Thank you for leaving your mark.

just read a posting from Alice Branham Young and learned of Tommy's death. She had written that "a bright star from our LEHS class of 1975 has moved on to smile in heaven." Alice is so right. I was always remember Tommy with that mop of blonde hair, with a warm, cheerful smile always on his face. Mostly I will remember the friendship he extended to me. I didn't realize Tommy had 3 sisters, I only knew Connie. I wish to extend my condolences to all, especially his children. God bless and comfort you during this time.

Uncle Mac, Aunt Marion, Cheryl, Connie, & Carol: Words cannot express the wonderful memories that I have had of Tommy and the times that we have hunted and fished together with you, Uncle Mac. You always provided the time, the place and the opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors! It's so hard for me to accept that Tommy is not still here with us. I know that the loss that we have experienced can only be eased by pointing our hearts toward our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. I regret not seeing Tommy more since we have grown into adulthood. Oh Marian & Mac & Family, Tom lives in my memory as a tow-headed young boy, my 2nd cousin, playing with us at Hodge family get togethers in SC. From the comments of those who knew him, I am sorry that I didn't know him as an adult. He certainly accomplished much more than many do in 2 lifetimes. I know the loving family though and so I know why he was so full of life and love and laughter. The love of our family and all the "Hill Sisters" goes out to all of you and to his closest loved ones. We cannot fathom the sudden loss, merely offer our love and consolation during this terrible time. Marian, I have wanted to call but will do so when I find the words. “Larger than Life” is the best way I can describe Tom. Tom was the kind of person who you met for 5 minutes and he made you feel like one of his best friends. I’ll never forget being in meetings with Tom and just waiting for “I’m only from Oklahoma, but…” in his best Oklahoma drawl, putting a smile on everyone’s face in the room. Tom will be deeply missed by all who had the opportunity to cross his path. I am glad to be one of those people. The service today was, to me, what Tom would have wanted - A celebration of life. Everyone seemed to know the same bigger than life Tom that I did. Tom and I knew each other and were close friends for many years.
About ten years ago I invited Tom to speak at the North Carolina Family Business Forum at Duke University. Tom started his presentation with "You know you are a redneck when...." That went on for 10 or 15 minutes. Then, when he got down to business, he absolutely wowed the crowd. They thought he was wonderful and he was. Both of my daughters knew Tom and he was part of our family at the MassMutual conventions.
We miss you Tom and we are praying for you and your family.

One of my fondest memories was being in the movie theater with him while watching "The Exorcist". He watched the movie with his HEAD turned away from the screen but his EYES looking at the screen! My heart hurts so much for you and Marion. I still remember the good times at the lake. Tommy sking with no ski-belt and getting caught by the warden, Hitting old golf balls off the bank, shooting skyrockets at fish under the light at the end of the dock. These memories will never be forgotten by me growing up around the crazy McCaskill family.
The things that I will always cherish is the love that you would show by treating me as though I was a son by spending quality time teaching me about fishing, cooking catfish stew, and eating scrambeled eggs at the steps of your cabin. I love you guys.

He has left a legacy that few of us would ever be able to emulate. His time may have been brief, but, oh, what a time it was! The world will not be the same without his light and leadership.

I am absolutely stunned at the loss of such a vital person and good friend. Tom was very, very special to so many people, and he has left an indelibly positive mark on all he touched.
From the first time we worked together with Mark Burson in getting the MassMutual Family Business program off the ground, to his visits to our office for Quota Buster kickoffs and other events,Tom brought light, humor and a refreshing irreverence to any situation.
Who else could do "The Twist" like Tom at parties? Who else would have picked me up and give me the biggest bear-hug when I first returned to Mass Mutual as GA and said "I love my Bobby"? Who else could raise eyebrows while at the same time evoke the most belly laughs in serious business meetings?
I will never forget this man who was larger than life and who's influence will carry on for many years to come.

Dear McCaskill family,
Tom was a very dear and special friend of mine. We shared many memorable lifetime experiences together. He was bigger than life it'self and will always be in my heart for as long as I live. Tom always talked of his family...his girls, that he loved more than life it'self, his momma, his daddy, and his special sisters. He loved his family more than anything. He was the most loving, caring, generouse to all, man I have ever met in my life. "Tomcat", that's what I called him. There was only one of him, and I know in my heart, that I will never meet or know another man as great as he! I know I speak for many of us that knew him...he did a great "king of the forest" immitation from the Wizzard Of Oz, and I would like to end with this...Tom McCaskill III was a "King" to all that had the opportunity to meet and know him.
