Obituary of John Smyrl Halsall
LUGOFF – A memorial service for John Smyrl Halsall III, 68, will be held Tuesday at 12:00 p.m. at El-Bethel Faith Community Church. The Rev. Joe Stines will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. prior to the service at the church. Memorials may be made to the Walter M. Crowe Animal Shelter.
Mr. Halsall died Saturday, September 24, 2011. Born in Camden, he was a son of the late John Smyrl and Betty Moore Halsall. He served in the United States Navy and was a Vietnam veteran. He retired from DuPont after 25 years and worked for Kershaw County Public Works 9 years.
Mr. Halsall was a dedicate volunteer with Lugoff Fire Department where served as Fire Chief and was an EMT with Kershaw County Medical Center for 28 years. He was a member of the Elk’s Lodge, VFW and American Legion. He enjoyed his motorcycle and going to the mountains, but most of all his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Becky Wilson Halsall; son, Dwayne R. Halsall of Lugoff; brother, Richard M. Halsall (Linda) of Camden and David Halsall (Anna) of Camden; sisters, Sandy Smyrl (William) of Lugoff and Karen Griswold (Mark) of Camden; grandchildren, Cody Halsall and Brett Halsall; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Jane H. Marshall.
