RIDGEWAY – CSM (Ret.) Calvin Coolidge Johnson, 83, died peacefully in his sleep on July 18, 2013. Mr. Johnson was born Sept. 18, 1929 in Lockhart, S.C. He was the son of the late Calvin Cleveland and Sina Mitchell Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a member of St. John’s United Methodist Church in Lugoff. He served in the U.S. Army for 29 years, which included one combat tour in Korea and two combat tours in South Vietnam. He retired in June of 1974. From 1975 until 1990, he was the school bus supervisor for Columbia High School. Funeral Services will be held Friday at 12:30 p.m. at St. John’s United Methodist Church, 45 Roseborough Rd, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends prior to the service from 11:30 – 12:30 p.m. in the fellowship hall. Mr. Johnson is survived by his wife of 62 years, Faye Nichols Johnson; sons, Mr. Chris Johnson (Mary Bess) of Lugoff, Dr. Joel Johnson (Pam) of Columbia; 5 grandchildren; and 7 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anita Johnson. He was predeceased by his parents; brothers, Oscar Johnson, Harold Johnson, Julius Johnson; and sisters, Vernie Lee Washam, Talitha Harvey, and Lucille Revis. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John’s United Methodist Church Building Fund, The American Cancer Society, or a charity of one’s choice.
