LUGOFF – Funeral service for John Lawrence Carey, 83, will be held Wednesday at 11:00 a.m. at Springvale Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Todd Horton will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Pine Grove Fire Department. Mr. Carey, husband of the late Molly Wood Carey, died Saturday, February 25, 2012. Born in Glascock County, Ga., he was the son of the late John Lawrence Carey Sr. and Gertrude Dye Carey. He served in the United States Army during WW II and retired from DuPont. He was a retired volunteer with Pine Grove Fire Department and enjoyed fishing, cook outs, and working on his computer. Surviving are his daughter, Katherine Carey of Lugoff; sons, David Carey of Clover and Ricky Carey (Donna) of Lugoff; sisters, Betty Rechichi of Rochester, N.Y., Annelle Kirkland (John) of Rochester, N.Y., and Sybil Gaskins (Charles) of San Antonio, Fla.; grandchildren, Mandy Taylor (Frank) of Lugoff, Nikki Keels (S.J.) of Lugoff, Brittany Hanson (Jeff) of Neb, Cody Carey of Lugoff, Brittany Todd of Charleston, Brian Foxworth of Lugoff, Michael Carey of Elgin, and Amanda Carey of Lexington; and great-grandchildren, Savannah Taylor of Lugoff, Madison Keels of Lugoff, Tyler Hanson of Neb, Abigail Carey of Elgin, and Bryson Thain of Lexington. He was predeceased by sisters, Helen Rabon Mitchem, Hazel Todd, and Sarah Eftink.
