LUGOFF – Funeral service for Lila LeGrand Kirkland, 85, will be held Thursday, March 1, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. David Sturgeon and the Rev. Matt Galloway will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church Building Fund. Mrs. Kirkland, wife of the late Sam R. Kirkland, died Monday, February 27, 2012. Born in Lugoff, she was a daughter of the late Henry Franklin and Minnie Blanche Hawkins LeGrand. She retired as a nursing assistant with Fairfield Nursing Home. She was a member of Concord Baptist Church where she was a longtime Sunday School Teacher. She loved her church, working with her flowers, and spending time with her family. Surviving are her sons, Henry Kirkland (Peggy), James Kirkland (Myra), Albert “Cotton” Kirkland (Delores), daughters, Edna Martin, Sue Branham, and Daisy Rhodes; step-daughter, Minnie Motley (Sam); twin sister, Leila Nates; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by a son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Linda Kirkland; son-in-law, Nelson Rhodes; brothers, John LeGrand and Joe LeGrand; sister, Evelyn Nates; and a special companion, E.W. Carter.
