Obituary of Harold A. Liles
LUGOFF - Funeral services for MSgt. Harold Avalee Liles Sr., U.S. Air Force (Ret’d) 82, will be held Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Congregational Holiness Church, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The Rev. Ronald Turner will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. Liles died Monday, March 5, 2012. Born in Jennings, Okla., he was the son of the late Calvin G. and Beulah Scott Liles. He retired from the U.S. Air Force after 28 years of Service. He was a distinguished veteran who served his country from 1947 – 1975, including time served in the U.S. Naval Reserves, the U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Air Force Reserves. Master Sgt. Liles served time in the Korean Conflict, Vietnam, and the Belgian Congo Crisis. He was a member of Congregational Holiness Church, DAV, the VFW, and the American Legion Post 17. He enjoyed woodworking, camping and spending time with his family.
Surviving are his wife of 63 years, Cleta Jean McGill Liles; sons, Harold Liles Jr. of Denton, TX, Rev. Robert Liles of Pelion, SC, Rev. Calvin Liles of Middletown, DE; daughters, Theresa Bales of Dover, DE, CoWanda Janean Gill of Ephrata, PA; 14 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; brothers, Clovis Liles of Midland, TX and Dale Liles of Bethany, OK.
