Obituary of Ruth Johnson
CAMDEN - A celebration of Life Service for Mrs. Ruth (Fred) Johnson, 89, will be held Saturday, June 23, 2012, at 11:00 am at Powers Funeral Home in Lugoff, SC. The Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the funeral home.
Mrs. Johnson died Friday, June 15, 2012. Born in Camden on September 3, 1922, she was the daughter of the late Roland King and Ottie King Cribb. She was predeceased by her husband of 66 years, Rev. Fred Johnson, and by a sister, Donna Mae Colvin.
Mrs. Johnson was a graduate of Bishopville High School and attended Wingate College. She retired from Hill Plumbing Company where she worked for 32 years. She was a faithful pastor’s wife, having taught Sunday School as well as serving with her husband for more than 60 years. Mrs. Johnson was a member of First Baptist Church, Camden, and a member of the Silvertones Choir.
Surviving are her daughters and sons-in-law, Gayle (Norm) Wiseman of Bluffton, Nancy (Don) Aycock of Camden; five grandchildren, Jennifer (Wade) Bales of Bluffton, Daniel (Allison) Wiseman of Asheville, N.C., Emily Aycock of Columbia, Catherine Aycock of James Island, and Derek (Nicole) Aycock of Richmond, Va.; sister, Vera Reaves of Daniel Island; five great grandchildren, Charles Wade, Jackson, Harrison and Anna Lauren Bales of Bluffton, and Eden Wiseman of Asheville, N.C.; and a number of nieces and nephews.
