ELGIN – Graveside service for Paul Hammond, 83, will be held Saturday, July 21, 2012 at 12:00 p.m. in Lancaster Memorial Park, Lancaster, S.C. The family will receive friends Friday, July 20, 2012 fom 3:00-5:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Serving as pallbearers will be Mr. Hammond’s grandchildren. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society. Mr. Hammond, husband of the late Rosa Alice Clontz, died Thursday, July 19, 2012. Born in Chester, he was the son of the late John and Emma Elizabeth Stroud Hammond. He served in the Unites States Air Force and the United States Army in WW II and the Korean Conflict. He was a life-time member of the VFW and was an avid Gamecock and NASCAR fan. Surviving are his daughters, Paula Reynolds (Terry), Janet Prescott (Larry), Martha Kilmon (Bobby), and Mary Roschel (Randy); 11 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a son, Paul Michael Hammond; brothers, Timothy Hammond, Charlie Hammond, and John Hammond; and sister, Thelma Chapman.
