Obituary of Raymond E. Stevens
CAMDEN – Funeral service with Military Honors for Raymond E. “Ray” Stevens, Sr., 69, will be held Monday at 4:00 p.m. at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Greg Sweet and the Rev. David Robinson will officiate. Masonic Rites will be held Sunday at 3:30 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home followed by a visitation until 6:00 p.m. Memorials may be made to Lugoff First Baptist Church, 106 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078.
Mr. Stevens died Friday, August 10, 2012. Born in Charleston, S.C., he was a son of the late Edward Gerald and Lillus Thompson Stevens. He was a Navy Seal and retired from the United States Navy in 1984 having served in Vietnam where he received numerous medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge # 411 and was a past Master of the Blythewood Lodge, a member of the Scottish Rite, the Jamil Temple and the American Legion at Fort Jackson.
Mr. Stevens was a member of Lugoff First Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon and Sunday School Teacher. He was an Ordained Minister.
Surviving are his wife, Denise W. Stevens; son, Raymond E. “Eddie” Stevens, Jr. and his wife, Stephanie of Lugoff; daughters, Terri Elizabeth Vincent of Irmo and Carole “Renee” Stevens Thomas and her husband, Tim of Elgin; step-son, Oren Wilkes; brother, William Gerald “Bill” Stevens of Greenwood; step-brother, Walter E. Tilley of Weatherford, Texas 7 grandchildren; and 2 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Arleen Carole Stevens; and a brother, Larry Eugene Stevens.
