My condolences to Ray's family. Ray was a good friend. He helped me out when I was a new forester.
He was the one guy I could always count on to be there at 5am. He taught me to deer hunt. A lot of great memories. One morning at 5am he was not yet there and we worried where he was. Just at that moment an 18 wheeler pulled in and the passenger door opened. It was still dark and we saw the shape of a big man with a rifle on his shoulder get out. There was Ray on time. His car broke down and he hitched a ride. I still don't know how he flagged down a truck at 4:30am toting a rifle and then got him to drop him off at a deer hunt. He will be much missed.

There are so many good memories it's hard to know what to share. From the rides In your many vehicles like a land Rover type vehicle that you took us off roading in when we were kids. Cruising the beach in your Celica. Having the day lights scared out of me going to the house in the mountains in the middle of the night (I was positive you drove me off the side of the mountain) You said your hearing was never the same after that trip.We had so many good trips there and you always found a road to scare me on. I loved all the times our families spent together at the lake. The trips from the lake to the beach just to eat seafood. You driving all of the kids in a separate vehicle and making us sing "99 bottles of beer on the wall" just to keep all if us occupied. Taking all of us to play putt putt. Your were the oldest and always leading our troop. All the swimming and skiing. The visits to your place when you lived in Orangeburg. My attempts to play tennis with you that usually resulted in the ball being wedged be in the fence behind me. I was always saying you did not know your own strength! When I got married you took up so much time with my girls. I remember following you to a family reunion terrified with my girls riding on the back of your motorcycle. I knew they had a blast and you were careful with them just as you always were with us. There are so many good memories that could go on forever. Thanks for all of the great memories and love you shared. Forever in my heart and memories. Love always! Rest in Peace!

So many great memories. The Lake. Fishing. Hunting. Skiing (or trying to). The Mountains. Traipsing through the woods. The Biddie Banquet. The Celica with the horn that played Dixie. Comdex. Laura (mine) and Cody. Our Cat vs. the Miata. Reunions where we winked at each other while listening to tall tales/BS from relatives. Hand-me-down clothes. My Wedding.
Of course, there were also some less pleasant times, like deaths, funerals, and pall-bearer duties. And the time you took me out in the middle of the lake near your house and told me "sink or swim." And the time you took me on the snipe hunt and left me holding a pillow case in he bushes for 2 hours. And ping pong (I always lost). And shooting contests (I lost those too). :-)
But, I wouldn't change a thing. I'm gonna miss you "Sport."

Ray will never have to face the last enemy death, ever again. In the meantime his acts of faith live on until he stands up alive and whole in the Paradise.
Isaiah 25:8 "He will swallow up death forever, And the Sovereign Lord Jehovah will wipe away the tears from all faces."

Ray not only loved dogs but he loved horses as well. Ray used to love coming over to the house in Patrick and taking pictures of my horses , but his favorite horse was my mustang named Shock . He liked to give Shock gummy worms , his favorite sweet treat The last time Ray and I went on a road trip was to go to Gaffny SC to pick up my Chihuahua named Cisco . Ray was a kind and caring person and will forever be in my heart .

Ray welcomed me to the Forestry Commission family when I was fresh out of the University of Georgia in 1985. He was always ready with a joke or news about "them Dawgs". He was also constantly ready to help guide a tender foot through the twists and turns of forestry in South Carolina. I will always remember how tickled he was to get and drive his Miata!
Precious memories. To his family: God be with you and may he rest in peace.

I first worked with Ray in Orangeburg in 1980. I found Ray to have a big heart and a friendly smile. Over the years we crossed paths several times. Ray was a Georgia Bulldog, all over. Being a Clemson Fan myself, we had several spirited discussions. Ray was a good. I will miss him. May God Bless your family at this time.
