Obituary of Herbert White

ELGIN – A funeral service for Herbert White, 84, will be held Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. The family will receive friends Sunday from 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

     Mr. White, husband of the late Evelyn White, passed away Sunday, June 23, 2019. Born in Lugoff, he was a son of the late Edward Manning White and Hattie Murphy White. Mr. Herbert received his early religious training from Ephesus UMC and most recently attended Mt. Zion Baptist Church. He retired from the U.S. Army. Mr. White was a member of the Masonic Lodge and enjoyed gardening, fishing, watching game shows, and telling stories about his adventurers.

    Surviving are his son, Martin White (Charlotte) of Elgin; and grandsons, Ransom Coleman White and William Martin White; and a host of nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by 2 sisters and 6 brothers.
