Obituary of James Leroy Greer, Sr.

CAMDEN – A funeral service, with full military honors and masonic rights, for SSG James Leroy Greer, Sr., (US Army Ret’d), 84, will be held Friday at 2 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Danny Hedgepath and the Rev. David Robinson will officiate. The family will receive friends Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home.

    Mr. Greer passed away Monday, August 19, 2019. Born in Easley, he was a son of the late Roy Greer and Sara Harbin Greer. Mr. Greer retired from the U.S. Army after 21 years of service. He was a member of Antioch Baptist Church and Masonic Lodge # 25. He enjoyed fishing.

    Surviving are his wife of 31 years, Betty Jane Peters Greer; children, Chief Warrant Officer James Leroy Greer (US Army Ret’d) (Denise), Sandra Marie Greer; step-children, Jackie Hopkins (Lynn), Brooks Houser; brothers, Tommy Greer, Richard Greer; 8 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Ethel Steadman Greer; brother, Vernon Greer; and grandchildren, Ashley Greer Shin, Jackson Hopkins, and Jason Hopkins.
