SUMTER – A memorial service for Margaret “Jean” Hayes, 77, will be held Tuesday at 10:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The family is receiving friends at the home, 411 Lake Ashwood Rd, Sumter, S.C. 29153. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital. Mrs. Hayes passed away Sunday, December 29, 2019. Born in Greenville, FL, she was a daughter of the late Paschal Porter and Daisy Souls Porter. She was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother who loved everyone individually and never failed to express her love. The love and kindness she shared with friends and family was unique, pure and saturating. Surviving are her husband, Harold Douglas Hayes; children, Linda Melvin (Eddie), Barbara Stefanik (John), Beverly Carlan (David) and Rebecca Hayes; grandchildren, Eric and Kelly Melvin, Wesley Carlan, Courtney Carlan Alsobrook (Evan), Christopher Avins and Koby Wagner; great-grandchildren, Kason and Braylon Goodwin; numerous nieces and nephews, who she loved as her own. She was predeceased by her brother, Edward Porter.
