To Linda and Richard's children, It was a privilege to have known Richard Layman. My late Husband, Jak Smyrl, and my late brother, Loyd Spires, enjoyed knowing Richard and admired his many talents. Please accept my heartfelt sympathy at your untimely loss. I believe Richard was a Christian and is now resting in the arms of our Savior, The Lord Jesus Christ.

One of my first memories of Mr. Richard 5 years ago as he sucked up sawdust to build us a dining room table. What a kind fella he was to me and to countless others. I’m so sorry Linda to learn of his passing during this time of social distancing. Please do reach out to us when you are ready for a visit. I pray God’s grace and peace for you. Mike Barwick

There are no words to express the heaviness that I feel in the passing of my dear friend and Brother. We have been very connected as fellow pilgrims for the past ten years since he joined our congregation at Southside Baptist.Church. We shared many hours together discussing things both temporal and Spiritual because he had an open door and an open heart to converse about Eternal truths. We did not always see things the same way, but we always appreciated the ability to share our views with one another. (That is a precious and rare experience when a pastor can have such a friend to mentor and mold. And I can say that my friend and his wife have truly grown in love and understanding of God's word through our discourse.) I will truly miss those Tuesday evenings when we sat on his porch and shared our thoughts. He taught me much about working with my hands, and he built me a beautiful workshop where I can go and spend hours alone with my Lord. In fact, I still have one of his raggedy shirts and his old hat hanging in my shop. We never parted company without a big hug and a "love ya, Brother". I will surely miss him til I see him again in Heaven. Pastor Q-ball
