CAMDEN – Funeral service for Margaret Ida Powers Cameron, 93, will be held Wednesday, November 7, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. Bethel Worship Center with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The Rev. Willard Cox and the Rev. Richard Cameron will officiate. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 6, 2012 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff. Memorials may be made to New Life Christian Outreach Building Fund, c/o William Dickey, 61 Longtown Road, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Mrs. Cameron, wife of the late William Manning “Willie” Cameron, died Sunday, November 04, 2012. Born in Hartsville, she was the daughter of the late Rev. Richard Ellerby and Bessie Lunday Powers. She attended school in Rockingham, N.C. and graduated from Holmes Theological Seminary in Greenville, S.C. in 1938. In 1964, she enrolled in the Kershaw County School of Nursing and at the age of 45 she was the oldest student enlisted in her class. She graduated in 1965 and began working as a licensed practical nurse, mostly on the pediatric ward, at the Kershaw County Memorial Hospital from 1965 until 1982. She was a wonderful and respected nurse as attested by many people in the community. Mrs. Cameron loved music and served for 30 years as the pianist at Camden Pentecostal Holiness Church. She also taught the teenage Sunday School Class for several years. One of the precious memories of her family was that she stayed at home the major part of the younger years of her children’s lives and reared, nutured, and loved them. More importantly she prayed and read God’s word daily with them before they left for school and also had nightly devotion with them. Her children were proud to call her “Mother”. Mrs. Cameron was a member of New Life Christian Outreach and her lifelong prayer has been Psalm 71: 1 “In thee, O Lord, Do I put my trust: Let me never be put to confusion.” Surviving are her son, Rev. Richard Manning “Mannie Boy” Cameron (Janice) of Camden; daughters, Shirley Ann Cogdill (Leonard) of Summerton, Margaret Joyce McDonald of Lugoff, Judy Elaine King of Camden, and Jane Renee Parker (Richard) of Lugoff; brothers, Robert Powers (Myrlee) of Camden, Rev. Dan Powers Sr. (Bunny) of Greenville, N.C., and Rev. David W. Cox (Lee Dean) of Walterboro, S.C.; sister, Faye Powers Greco (Charles) of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Frances S. Cameron of Camden and Ann Powers of Georgetown, S.C.; and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Willie Alfred Cameron; step-mother, Bessie Cox Powers; brothers, David Allen Powers, James Powers, Richard Powers, Jackie Powers, Edward R. Cox, Robert E. Cox, and Rev. J. Bernard Cox; and sisters, Miriam Cox Thomas and Cleonis Cox Benton. The family would like to extend a special thanks and appreciation for the love and care given by the staff of KershawHealth Karesh Wing, KershawHealth Hospice, Dr. Ziad Mattar, Dr. Tallulah Holmstrom and Anita DuBose, FNP. Also to Debbie Melton, Wanda Powers and Ethel Stacks for the special care they provided to Margaret at home before she moved to the Karesh Wing, and to Linda Hall for all she has done for the family.
