Merritt Island, FL - Funeral service for Joan Elizabeth Woods, 78, will be held on Friday, June 5, 2020, at 12:00 p.m., with a visitation 1hr prior. Burial will follow the service in Cedar Cemetery. Joan was born in Camden, S.C. on May 23, 1941 to the late Robert H. and Gertrude Lewis Woods. She was a 1960 graduate of Jackson High School in Camden, S.C. She moved to New York and stayed there for many years. Years later she moved to Merritt Island, Florida. All ofthe family attended the Gordon Street Church of God in earlier years. Joan came to visit not only for Mother's Day every year, but also for Thanksgiving and Christmas. She was one who did not forget her roots. Her family and friends missed her not being able to come home after she became ill. Joan and her loving companion, Ernest Wilson, gave generously to Gordon Street Church of God. She loved her Trotters. She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Margaret Smith and Geneva Coleman; and brother, Mack Woods. She leaves to cherish her memories, her very special companion, Ernest Wilson, of Merritt Island, Florida; sisters, Joyce Brown (Sammy) of Florence, S.C., Doris Robinson, Betty J. Stover of Camden, S.C.; many nieces and nephews; her church family in Camden, S.C.; along with Pastor Claretha B. Free. Her family and friends will dearly miss her.
