Obituary of CW4 Douglas Clifton McFarland, U.S. Army, Ret.
LUGOFF – A time of gathering to celebrate the life of Douglas Clifton McFarland, 84, will be held 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2020 at the McFarland residence, 3 Crockett Drive, Lugoff, S.C. 29078. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
Mr. McFarland passed away on Sunday, July 26, 2020. Born in Hartsville, S.C., he was a son of the late Laurie Henderson McFarland and Mamie Elise Perkins McFarland. Douglas retired after serving in both the U.S. Air Force and U.S. Army for 30 years. He was an aeronautical engineer, flying helicopters and fixed wing. He was very artistic, enjoyed woodworking and sailing on his favorite boat, “Easy”. He was an all-around great guy.
Surviving is his wife, Brenda Prosser McFarland; children, Douglas “Top” McFarland, Beth Marie Wilson, Daniel James McFarland (Kimberly), William Andrew McFarland (Gretchen), Joseph R. Ferncez, and Michael D. Ferncez; 9 grandchildren; sisters, Dorothy Peacock and Mary Ann Wilhoit; numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his first wife, Joan Marie Liesenberg McFarland; brothers, James Henderson McFarland, William Laurie McFarland, Fred Michael McFarland, and Carl Don McFarland; and sister, Linda Joyce Winburn.
