Obituary of Herbert L. Griswold
HERBERT GRISWOLD
CAMDEN – Funeral service for Herbert Lee Griswold, 80, will be held Thursday at 3:00 pm. at Wateree Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Everett Recconu will officiate. The family will receive friends Wednesday 6-8 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, SC. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the South Carolina Autism Society, 806 12th Street, West Columbia, SC 29169 or the American Cancer Society, 647 Lachicotte Road, Lugoff, SC 29078.
Mr. Griswold died Sunday, December 8, 2013. Born in Jersey Shore, PA., he was the son of the late Harry Milton and Mary Hetfield Griswold. He served in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller and Radar Specialist. He spent much of his time traveling the Southeast US in the same company with his brother Clyde. He played with the Shaw AFB “Flying Nines” baseball team. After settling in Camden, he started a family and started working with DuPont where he later retired. He was a member, a deacon, and a former committee member of Wateree Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Betty Davis Griswold; son, Mark Griswold (Karen) of Camden; daughter, Margaret Griswold of Camden; step-daughter, Kathy Barnes, step-son, David Jones; brothers, Don (Kathy) Griswold, Daniel (Dena) Griswold, and Wayne (Barbara) Griswold; sisters, Dorothy (Richard) Reamer, Helen (Harold) Keck and Barbara (Raymond) Gallagher; 3 grandchildren; Darius (Sri) Raeisi, Steven Griswold, Jack Griswold; and 2 step-grandchildren, Britton Swingle and Channing Childers. He was pre-deceased by a daughter, Mary Griswold; grandson, Michael Griswold; sister, Mary Louise Griswold; and brothers, Clyde Griswold and Harry M. Griswold, Jr.
