Obituary of William Jones Lucas
CAMDEN – A graveside Celebration of Life Service for William Jones “W.J.” Lucas, 90, will be held on Friday at 11:00 a.m. at Quaker Cemetery. The Rev. Bruce Hancock will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital.
Mr. Lucas passed away on Wednesday, December 2, 2020. Born in Montgomery County, N.C., he was the son of the late John Lee and Ruth Estelle Shuping Lucas. He retired from DuPont and he was the crossing guard for Camden Elementary for many years. Mr. Lucas was an avid Gamecock fan. He always made everyone feel welcome and was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Surviving are his wife of 70 years, Emily Hornsby Lucas; children, Mike Lucas (Joan) of Camden, Dale West (David) of Camden, Ellen Hancock (Tony) of Lugoff, Alison Boling of Camden and Kenny Hornsby of Camden; 8 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren. He was predeceased by a daughter, Jerri Hornsby; son-in-law, Bill Boling; and siblings, Nannie Nichols, Lewis Lucas, Albert Lucas, Effie Stephens, Mildred Hammer, Ed Lucas and Frank Lucas.
