Obituary of John "Wayne" Peake
ELGIN – A funeral service for John “Wayne” Peake, 68, will be held Monday at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, with burial to follow in Smyrna United Methodist Church Cemetery. Larry Faulkenberry and The Rev. Stewart Kidd will officiate. A public viewing will be held prior to the service from 10 – 11 a.m. at the funeral home.
Mr. Peake passed away Friday, January 15, 2021. Born in South Carolina, he was a son of the late Marvin and Lottie Branham Peake. Mr. Peake was the owner and operator of Peake & Son Logging with a long-term relationship with Almond Forest Products. He enjoyed being in the woods working where he was known as a “legend in the industry,” drag racing, hunting, and spending time with his grandkids.
Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Diane Gunter Peake; children, Jessica Elizabeth Peake of Elgin, Wayne Mitchell Peake, of Elgin; grandchildren. Carson Peake, Bryson Peake, Emma Peake, Gracie Peake, Wayne Mitchell Peake, Jr.; and siblings, Judy Stanley of Elgin, Marvie Freeman (Larry) of Elgin, and Richard Peake of Elgin.
