Obituary of Wilda Marie Thompson

ELGIN - On Sunday, January 17, 2021 Wilda-Marie Beckon Thompson formerly of Harbor Springs MI, loving wife and mother of seven children, passed away at the age of 98.  Wilda was born on May 1, 1922 in Harbor Springs, MI to Albert Earl and Wilda Louise Rose Beckon.  She met Clare Arlo Thompson, they married in 1941 and started a family.  Together, Wilda and Clare raised his two prior children, Raymond Clare and Daniel Wesley, as well as adding seven children of their own.  The addition of Duane Earl, Barbara Jean (Robinson), Therril Dennis, Bernard Lee, Arland George, Douglas Arlo and Curtis Leon all made for a large rambunctious family.  Wilda loved to garden and always had a big plot with fruits, vegetables and flowers for most of her life.  Crocheting was another favorite hobby and at Christmas all the grand-kids looked forward to the mittens, hats and slippers she made for them.  Wilda also loved to travel and could find fun in a simple trip to Good Hart, a couple’s adventure in Mexico with her husband, sister Eileen and brother-in-law Merle, or an international vacation to Italy.  But the thing Wilda loved most was keeping in touch with her big family!  She loved talking and hearing what everyone was up to, and sharing her news as well.  She lived an amazing life that included experiences such as hitching up the sleigh in the winter for a cold trip into town, seeing her first car, and packing fruit in California.  Wilda loved a good Polka.  Wilda was preceded in death by her husband Clare, sister Eileen, and sons Duane, Therril, Douglas and Daniel.  She is survived by her children Barbara in SC, Bernard in MI, Arland in WI and Curtis in MI as well as 20 grandchildren, numerous great grandchildren and several great-great grandchildren.  She will be sorely missed but remembered with endless love.  A graveside celebration and reception will be planned in the summer at her final resting place with her husband In Cross Village MI.
