Obituary of Mike Lucas

CAMDEN – A service to celebrate the life of William Michael Lucas, 69, will be held on Tuesday at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Camden with burial to follow in Quaker Cemetery. Masks will be required.  Visitation will follow the graveside service.   In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the Camden High School Baseball Team.

    Mr. Lucas passed away on Saturday, February 6, 2021.  Born in Camden, he was the son of Emily Lenora Hornsby Lucas and the late William Jones Lucas.  He was a systems tech for DuPont and retired from Invista where he worked in Power. 

    Mr. Lucas coached and umpired for the Kershaw County Recreation Department for many years and was an avid fan and supporter of the Camden High School Baseball Team.  He was a member of the Camden Bulldog Club and Historic Shag Club.  He enjoyed fishing and spending time at the beach.   

    Mike's greatest joy in life was his family, but what he adored most was his grandchildren. 

    Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Joan Genobles Lucas; daughter, Ami Lucas Horton (Chet) of Camden; grandchildren, Lucas Reed Horton and Annah Elizabeth Horton of Camden; sisters, Dale Lucas West (David) of Camden, Ellen Lucas Hancock (Tony) of Lugoff and Alison Lucas Boling of Camden; and his nieces and nephews.  He was predeceased by sister, Jerri Hornsby; and brother-in-law, Bill Boling.
