Obituary of Gloria Brown Ayer

LUGOFF – Funeral service for Gloria Brown Ayer, 73, will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, February 27, 2021 at Lugoff First Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery.  The Rev. Doug Huntsinger will officiate. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Alzheimer’s Foundation.

    Mrs. Ayer passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, February 23, 2021.  Born in Camden, she was the daughter of the late Lester Clyde Brown and Wilma Owens Brown.  Gloria graduated from Camden High School in 1965.  She was a former member of Camden First Baptist Church and a current member of Lugoff First Baptist Church.  She last worked at DHEC in Camden and served as a past president of the Women’s Lions Club in Mullins, S.C.  Mrs. Ayer enjoyed traveling, the beach, and especially loved gardening, scrapbooking and caring for her pets.

    Surviving are her husband of 29 years, Mitchell O. Ayer; son, Jack B. Witherspoon, Jr. (Jenna) of Florence; step-children, David Ayer and Kristin Stokes; grandchildren, Hadlee Witherspoon, Addyson Calcutt, Garland and Hunter Stokes, Josh and Beck Ayer; sister-in-law, Brenda Brown; cousin, Diane Jackson; and nephew, Justin Brown.  She was predeceased by her brother, Alan Lester Brown.

    The family would like to give special thanks to the wonderful workers of Kershaw Hospice and to caregivers, Kelly Bowen and Kim Boisvert.
