Obituary of Robert Leroy Baton

Robert Leroy Baton, Sr., 74, of Bethune, and formerly of Richmond, RI, passed away on Thursday, March 11, 2021. Born in Wakefield, RI, on September 30, 1946, he was the son of the late Arthur H. and Elizabeth Krus Baton and the husband of Georgiana Cairnes Baton. Robert attended Bethel United Methodist Church in Bethune. He served in the US Marine Corps, was a Vietnam Veteran, and a Purple Heart Recipient. He was a member of the VFW Post #17. Robert retired after 33 years from General Dynamics, where he worked in the Electric Boat Division as a Submarine Model Maker. After his retirement, he and his wife moved to Bethune, SC, where he spent the last 16 years and made countless new friends. He was an avid bass fisherman and was a lifetime member of B.A.S.S. Robert enjoyed traveling, especially back home to Rhode Island to visit his family. He was loved by all who knew him and will be deeply missed.

In addition to his wife, Robert is survived by his son, Robert L Baton, Jr. (Darlene); and daughters, Ginger Williams (Dave) and Lisa Baton (Randy); his brother, Harold Baton (Shirley); sisters, Eleanor Smith, Nancy Tanner, Linda Baton, and Debra Baton (Bob); grandchildren, Amanda Martell, David Williams, Annaliese Kenney, Bryan Malo, Ryan Malo, and Andrew Malo; and great-grandchildren, Isabella Korn, Avery Malo, Dahlia Malo, Rylan Malo, Aiden Malo, and Cameron Malo.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Arthur Baton; brother-in-law, Ralph Tanner; and nephew, Arty Baton.

The family will receive friends from 5-7pm on Wednesday, March 17, 2021, at Powers Funeral Home. Robert will be laid to rest at a later date in Rockville Cemetery, Rockville, RI.
