Obituary of Albert R. Catoe
BETHUNE – Funeral service for Albert R. Catoe, 82, will be held on Sunday, April 25, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Sandy Level Baptist Church with burial to follow in the church cemetery. The Rev. Randy Barr, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive friends Saturday 4-6 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.
Mr. Catoe passed away at Prisma Health Richland on Saturday, April 17, 2021. Born in Kershaw County, he was the son of the late Rev. Leroy and Almetter Harris Catoe. He served in the United States Army in Vietnam and retired from Blonder Tongue Laboratories in Oldbridge, N.J. in 2004.
Mr. Catoe was a member of Sandy Level Baptist Church in Bethune where he was a Trustee and sang in the choir. He worked for the Camden Military Academy, was a Poll Manager with the Kershaw County Voter Registration and served with Meals On Wheels. He enjoyed fishing and listening to gospel music.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Doris Ponds Catoe; children, Albert L. Catoe, Robin Catoe-Ellis (Joseph) and Kimberly Catoe; sisters, Susie Mae Seegars and Nannie Lou Burton; brother, Al-badie “Boyd Catoe” Salaam; 4 grandchildren, Ra’Vaughn Catoe, Jamauri Ellis, Jamoni Ellis and Ja’Nyah Jones; and 2 great-grandchildren, Tre Catoe and Ace Catoe. He was predeceased by siblings, Lula Mickles, Elroy Catoe, Paul Catoe, McArthur Catoe, William Catoe and Varion Cook.
