Obituary of Josephine Carter Burns

Josephine Carter Burns, 62, of Camden, passed away on Monday, April 19, 2021. Born in Camden on April 20, 1958, she was the daughter of the late Matthew and Mary Clarkson Carter.

Those whom will cherish her fond memories are her two loving sons, Stacey L. Carter (Virginia) of Camden, and Jamel K. Carter (Monica) of Visalia, CA; her daughter, Adriene Roddey (Joe) of Camden; eight grandchildren, Amondaija of Macon, GA, Khalique of Camden, SC, Dolores, Daelani, and Damari of Visalia, CA, Melody of Columbia, SC, Malaysia and Amir of Camden, SC; also to mourn are her four sisters, Bessie Jones (Melvin) of Glenrock, NJ, Lou Ella Evans of Wayne, NJ, Priscilla Carter of Dover, DE, and Barbara Perkins (John) of Cassatt, SC; five brothers, Charlie Carter of New Haven, CT, Frank Clarkson (Mikki) of Camden, SC, John Gary (Martha) of Atlanta, GA, Anthony Clarkson (Barbara) of Cassatt, SC, and Michael Carter of Cassatt, SC; and her brother-in-law, Bryant Miller; her niece, Michelle King of Bethune, SC; and special friend, Yvette Sutton of Cassatt, SC.

She was preceded in death by nine siblings, Louise Dempsey, Maggie Dubose, Laura Miller, Inez Clarkson, Shirley Porter, Betty Carter, Matthew Carter, Jr., James Carter, and Willie Carter.

Visitation will be held from 5-7pm on Friday, April 30, 2021 at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.

Graveside services will be held at 11am on Saturday, May 1, 2021 in Nazareth Baptist Church Cemetery in Cassatt.
