Obituary of Steve R. Ford

ELGIN – A service to celebrate the life of Steve Roe Ford, 67, will be held on Friday, June 4 at 10:00 a.m. at Holland Avenue Baptist Church, 801 12th St, Cayce, SC 29033.  A private family burial will be held in Fort Jackson National Cemetery.  The family will receive friends Thursday 5-7 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Donate Life South Carolina or DAV.

    Mr. Ford passed away on Friday, May 28, 2021.  Born in Kingsport, Tenn., he was the son of the late Clifford Roe and Essie Banks Ford.  He served in the United States Air Force and was a senior field service engineer for Beckman-Coulter.  He was a member of Holland Avenue Baptist Church.

     Mr. Ford was the recipient of a heart transplant that gave him almost 11 wonderful years.  In return for his gratefulness in being a recipient, he volunteered with Sharing Hope of South Carolina and Donate Life and was a member of Second Chance Support Group.  He was a South Carolina State Jefferson Award finalist in 2019 and in 2014 he was a silver and bronze medal recipient at the transplant games and in 2016 was a bronze medal recipient at the transplant games.  He enjoyed playing guitar and the banjo.

    Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Wanda Faile Ford; daughter, Heather Ford (Jason Yarborough) of Rock Hill; son, Jarod Ford (Windy) of Rock Hill; brothers, Terry Ford and Chuck Ford; and grandchildren, Jackson Ford, Savannah Chestnut, Sydney Ford and Abigail Ford.  He was predeceased a great-grandson, Braxton James.
