Obituary of Alice Williams

CAMDEN – Margaret “Alice” Williams passed away at her home, Wednesday, June 17, 2021.  Born in York County, SC April 22, 1943, she was a daughter of the late Paul and Ruby Jane (Lanning) Hines.  She was married in Rock Hill Oct. 31, 1959 to Jesse D. Williams, who predeceased her Dec. 28, 1986.

Services will be held on Monday, June 21, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home, Lugoff, with burial to follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.  The Rev. David Snodgrass and the Rev. Derrick Proctor will officiate.  The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Lovingly known as “Nanny” by many, Alice loved taking care of her family and friends.  She and her family moved from Rock Hill to Camden in 1968.  She retired at the age of 60 after having worked in the textile industry for many years.  A longtime active and faithful member of the First Church of the Nazarene in Camden, she loved her church family dearly, especially her “church babies” she helped care for in the nursery.  She enjoyed taking care of her yard and her roses and she loved her fur babies, too.  To know Nannie was to love her!

Survivors include daughters, Teresa A. Williams of Lugoff and Sandra W. Arledge of the home; grandchildren and great-grandchildren:  Amanda (Jason) Cockfield and their children, Alexis, Jason, Jr., and Curtis James; Debra (David) Myers and their daughter, Juanita Dawn; Gregory Williams; Jesse P. Williams and his daughters, Karmen, Raelyn, A’laynah; Grant (Haley) Arledge and their children Anastin, Abigail, Olivia, and Lillian; Adam Arledge; R.J. (Jaime) Williams and their son, James; Melissa (Casey Smith) Williams and their son, Mason; Cassie (Taylor Gerwitz) Williams and their children, Zoey and Zachary; Jordan Ruhl, Gabriel Williams; Dakota Williams, and John Williams.  She is also survived by sisters, Geraldine Franklin and Betty Carroll, both of York, SC; Jo Ann (Gordon) Lemmons of Gastonia, NC; brothers, Billy Hines (Betty) of Rock Hill, SC and Charlie Hines (Janet) of Fisherville, Kentucky; special added family, Greg Outlaw; and a host of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Nellie Hines; brothers, Bobby, Paul, and Clyde Hines; her daughter, Ruby Ophelia Williams; her sons, Lenard and Roy Williams; a great-grandson, Cameron Williams; and a longtime friend “sister” so dear, Mrs. Patsy Walters.

Last but not least the family would like to extend many thanks to nurse practitioner Lauren Taylor and Brandi at Sentinel Health Care, nurse, Rebecca with KershawHealth Home Care, Alfreda Brown, CNA with At Your Home Health Services Care, Dr. M. Todd Alderson, and Dr. Mark Mayson and nurse Kim. who extended such loving care and compassion to her during the final days and months of her journey here.
