Obituary of Charlie Belton

Mr. Charlie Belton, the son of the late James and Mae Bell Belton, passed away on July 6, 2021. Born in Camden, S.C., Mr. Belton was a great handy man. In his younger days he was employed with Toyota in Lugoff, S.C. and also worked with race horses. Some of his handy work is throughout the community.

    Surviving are his wife, Martha Johnson Belton; a step-son, Anthony “Tank” Johnson of San Antonio, TX; goddaughter, Sharon Elm; sisters, Janie Mae Belton of Camden, S.C., Naomi Small of Columbia, S.C., Elaine Belton, and Betty Belton of New York, N.Y.; brothers, Robert Samuel Belton of Brooklyn, N.Y., James Belton of N.C.; special nieces, Sharika Robertson, Lisa Dixon, Tonya Belton, Audria Belton Dobson, Millicent Reed, Jeannie Drakeford, Veronica Lewis, Cheryl Small; one nephew, Marice Belton of CA; brother-in-law, Johnny Johnson of Lugoff; sisters-in-law, Nancy Williams of Lugoff, Rosa Lee Robertson (Robert) of Lugoff, Josie Holland of Camden, Ruby Augusta of Kingston, N.Y.; a cousin, David Belton; a special friend, Fredrick Ruff; and several other nieces, nephews and relatives.

    A memorial service for Mr. Belton will be held Saturday, July 17, 2021 at 4:00 p.m. at Powers Funeral Home. The Bishop Ervin Gripper, Sr. will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service.
