Obituary of Charles Raymond Simmons, Sr.

ELGIN – A funeral service for Charles Raymond Simmons, Sr., 83, will be held Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Powers Funeral Home with burial to follow in Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Rev. Eric Boone will officiate. The family will receive friends 1hr prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.

    Mr. Simmons passed away Friday, July 16, 2021. Born in Old Hickory, Tennessee, he was a son of the late Edgar Lee Simmons and Mary Elizabeth Arrington Simmons. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church in Lugoff, and enjoyed hunting, fishing, and reading.

   He is survived by his wife, Helen Barfield Simmons; children, Helen Charlene Casey, Pamela Rosa Gardner (Greg), Charles Raymond Simmons, Jr. (Debra), and Barry Allen Simmons; grandchildren, Lauren Victoria Hull, Matthew Paul Hull, Jessica Grace Hull, Autumn Marie Simmons, and Zachary Michael Holmes; sisters, Mary Lee Willard (Oliver) and Frances Elizabeth Perry (Keith); and brother-in-law, Daryl Ellis (Alice). He was predeceased by his sister, Sophia Annette Ellis.
