Obituary of John "Jack" Henry Strange, Jr.

John “Jack” Henry Strange, Jr., 80, of Elgin, passed away on Sunday, September 19, 2021. Born in Columbia, he was the son of the late John Henry and Nellie Mae Pleasant Strange. John was a US Army Veteran, and he retired after a long career with Southern Railroad. He loved singing, fishing, hunting, riding motorcycles, and gardening. Above all, John loved his God, his family, and worshipping and participating in church.

He is survived by his longtime companion, Edna Strange; his previous wives and mothers of his children, Faye Strange and Melanie Kinert; his children, Anthony Strange (Sara), Tina Blevins (Marvin), Jonnie Kuykendall (Charles), Tammi Strange, and Kristie Freeland; as well as 12 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by four siblings.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 4:00pm on Saturday, September 25, 2021, in the chapel at Powers Funeral Home, officiated by Rev. Bob Moore. The family will receive friends at the funeral home immediately following the service.
